WIMAUMA — A man was killed early Tuesday in a collision with a semi-trailer on U.S. 301 in Wimauma.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the man who died as Tyler Andrew White, 22, of Mulberry.
White was heading north on U.S. 301 about 7:40 a.m. in a Ford Focus. The car moved into the southbound lanes to pass several other vehicles, FHP troopers said. At the same time, a semitrailer was heading south on the opposite side of the road. The car and the truck collided head-on near the intersection of Lenfred Drive.
Paramedics took White to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, where he died, according to an FHP news release.
The truck driver, Cresencio Ivan Carmona, 45, was not injured.
All lanes of U.S. 301 were closed for several hours while troopers conducted a crash investigation. The highway reopened about 2 p.m.
