Infant dies in Hillsborough County mobile home fire

An infant left in the care of his great grandmother died inside their burning mobile home Wednesday evening, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

The great grandmother, Barbara Weidman, 67, escaped from the home unharmed. Firefighters recovered the body of her 9-month-old great grandson inside.

The mother of the child, Deziray Weidman, 17, was not home at the time. All three lived together.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 5112 Marc Drive south of Palm River and east of Progress Village shortly after 6 p.m. When they arrived, they were alerted to an infant being inside the home, according to a news release.

As firefighters battled the flames, they located the child inside the home.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Few other details were released.
