TAMPA — It took firefighters four hours to squelch a fire that engulfed an Oakland Drive home on Tuesday.
When they arrived around 6:45 a.m., Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said it found the two-car garage and half the home at 5621 Oakland Dr. consumed by flames, according to fire rescue spokeswoman Nacole Revette. It took about an hour to put out the largest fire pockets, Revette said, and then a few more hours to extinguish smaller hot spots.
The home was not structurally sound, Revette said, so firefighters battled the flames from the outside.
Two adults living there were displaced, she said, but were not injured. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance.
Officials said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
