House fire displaces Tarpon Springs man and his son

Published Apr. 15, 2013

TARPON SPRINGS — A fire Friday night caused extensive damage to a house in Tarpon Springs, displacing two people, authorities said.

Tarpon Springs firefighters responded to a call about the fire at 9:50 p.m., fire Capt. Rick Kinney said. Nobody was injured, Kinney said, though the fire caused "considerable damage" to the house at 705 S Disston Ave.

Tarpon Springs resident Mary Vickers said the two people displaced by the fire were her adult brother and his young son.

"The house inside is destroyed," she said, adding that the pair are now staying in a hotel paid for by the American Red Cross.

Kinney said firefighters have not determined what caused the blaze and continue to investigate.
