TEMPLE TERRACE — Firefighters searching the scene of an apartment complex fire Sunday found a women dead in the rubble, city officials said.

The victim did not live at the Park at Monument Terrace complex on Normandy Place, and hasn't been identified pending notification of family members.

Firefighters and police responded to the fire just before 3 a.m., according to a Temple Terrace news release. They evacuated several apartments and battled the fire for two hours before it was extinguished.

Twelve apartments were affected, many of them destroyed, the news release said. The American Red Cross is providing help to displaced families.

Authorities confirmed the woman's death about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
