Among its posts about drug busts and graffiti vandals, the Crestview Police Department made a plea on its Facebook page Thursday to identify the man locals have dubbed the "crapperman."

The police department in Florida's panhandle posted that the unknown man defecated behind a jewelry store. One of the store's employees nearly stepped in the mess the man left behind, police said. A look at security footage showed the man dropping his trousers at 10:06 a.m.

He was bearded and shirtless.

The owner of the store — Joey the Jeweler — posted the security footage on his own Facebook page, writing: "This is just NASTY!!! And, it's about 6ft inside private property, which means I get to clean it up! People have no respect for others anymore!"

Police were not immediately able to find the man when they canvassed the area. But they updated their Facebook post to say they have since been able to identify him and working to get a warrant for his arrest.

"Incidents like these have a negative effect on the quality of life in our community," Police Chief Tony Taylor said in a statement. "It's just downright shameful when people don't give a crap about their town. It really stinks."
