Former Newsome High math teacher back in jail on child porn charges

TAMPA — A former Newsome High School math teacher accused of downloading child pornography was sent back to jail after a hearing Thursday.

David Valesano, 51, of Brandon was booked into the Hillsborough County jail on $1.2 million bail. He faces 125 counts of child porn possession.

He was first arrested in July by deputies who say they caught the longtime teacher downloading child pornography from "known areas on the Web."

Valesano was initially booked on 20 counts, which later was increased to 125. In August, he was released from jail on $100,000 bail, records show.

At the time, a schools spokesman said the district did not believe Valesano's actions had anything to do with school. Evaluations through 2010 showed mostly satisfactory ratings.

His next hearing is Dec. 10.
