A dog accidentally dragged behind a truck in Spring Hill on Friday is recovering as his owner was arrested on Wednesday night.
Ollie, a 1-year-old pit bull terrier mix, is recuperating at Nature Coast Animal Wellness and Surgical Center in Weeki Wachee.
A post on Nature Coast's page said Ollie is "very sore but is doing good." Another mentioned one of the hospital's veterinary technicians took Ollie home last weekend "to make him as comfortable as possible in a 'home' environment."
His recovery comes as his owner and the driver, Gregory Tousignant, was arrested by Hernando deputies in Spring Hill on Wednesday.
Deputies spotted Tousignant, 59, in the green Ford F-150 described in the arrest warrant.
They placed him under arrest for animal cruelty and for driving with a suspended or revoked license. His bail was set at $1,500.
Around 9:30 a.m. on May 3, 911 dispatchers received calls that reported a dog being dragged on Northcliffe Boulevard.
Witnesses said it appeared that Tousignant was unaware the dog had jumped out of the bed of his truck. They said the dog was tied to the truck's back bumper by a piece of rope attached to his collar. But the dog managed to free itself.
A witness tended to the injured dog and took him for additional treatment.
