SPRING HILL — Three men and one woman from St. Petersburg were arrested after driving two hours north to steal Christmas lights and burglarize vehicles, then attempting to flee from deputies in a stolen SUV, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Dorrien Black, 18, faces charges of vehicle burglary, grand theft auto and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Robert Green, 18, and Leandre Millhouse, 21, each face charges of vehicle burglary and grand theft auto. And Jaquez Rouse, 18, faces charges of vehicle burglary, grand theft auto and fleeing and eluding.
Here's what happened, according to the Sheriff's Office:
At about 3 a.m. Wednesday, a resident reported four people stealing lights and breaking into vehicles in the Villages of Avalon subdivision. Two deputies were dispatched.
When they arrived, the deputies said they saw a black SUV speeding out of the subdivision. When deputies tried to pull the SUV over, they said the driver pulled away. But in trying to get away, the agency said, the driver actually drove off the road and ended up disabling the vehicle.
Two people were arrested in the SUV, and two others were arrested in another vehicle found nearby. The SUV had just been stolen from the neighborhood, deputies said, and that they found stolen property from inside and outside the county.
All four arrestees were being held Wednesday afternoon in the Hernando County jail. Green and Millhouse were being held in lieu of $20,000 bond; Rouse's bail was $25,000 and Black's was $26,000.
