Highway Patrol identifies Tampa woman fatally struck on south Interstate 75

RUSKIN — The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a woman was struck and killed early Sunday when she walked into the southbound lanes of Interstate 75.

Courtney Ellen Krysa, 22, of Tampa was struck at about 4:50 a.m. near mile marker 240, the Sun City Boulevard exit, according to the Highway Patrol.

Krysa was standing near two cars parked on the outside shoulder when she walked into the path of a Hummer H2 traveling in the center lane.

She died at the scene. The Hummer driver, 49-year-old Maria B. Pillion of Parrish, stopped after the collision and was treated for minor injuries, the Highway Patrol said.

It was unclear why Krysa walked into the roadway, troopers said.
