PLANT CITY — A 19-year-old Ocala man was shot Wednesday night after he pointed a gun at two people outside a bar and liquor store on State Road 60, deputies said.

Tyler Ray Howell was expected to survive his injuries. He was shot by Durrell Anthony Boswell, 23, of Plant City, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Howell was outside Twilight Zone Package & Lounge about 11 p.m. when he walked toward Boswell's car pointing a gun at Boswell and a female passenger. Boswell, investigators said, shot Howell twice. He and the woman later told deputies they did not know Howell.

Charges in the case are pending, according to the Sheriff's Office, but investigators said Boswell acted in self-defense. Howell was taken to Tampa General Hospital.

No further information was immediately available.
