NEW PORT RICHEY — A 33-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he kicked his pregnant girlfriend in the head and went on a rampage after she turned away his sexual advances, deputies say.

Kenneth Charles Sorrells of Tampa faces charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery on a pregnant victim and battery, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The incident took place at about 6 a.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of Bandura Avenue.

The victim told deputies that Sorrells kicked her head when she turned him away, the Sheriff's Office said. She is pregnant and the two had been in a relationship for three years.

Sorrells started breaking things and behaving violently, deputies said, and then he beat another victim — a male friend who had intervened — while his girlfriend fled.

When the victim returned, Sorrells chased her through the home and kicked down the door of a bathroom where she was hiding, the Sheriff's Office said.

Sorrells threatened her with a broken bottle so she defended herself by stabbing him with a small pair of scissors, the Sheriff's Office said.

Sorrells was being held Monday in the Pasco County jail without bail.
