ST. PETERSBURG — A 64-year-old bicyclist died in a crash Thursday morning that shut down part of 64th Street S, according to St. Petersburg police.

Sheldon Wagner Jr. was riding his bike north in the southbound lane of 64 Street S at about 7:20 a.m., police said. He was riding on the west side of the road, police said, when at Bougainvilla Avenue S, he made a sudden turn to cross over to the east side of the road.

He ended up riding his bike into a Nissan Altima driven by Lakeba Brown. Police said the driver wasn't able to react fast enough to avoid the collision.

Wagner, of St. Petersburg, was taken to Palms at Pasadena Hospital. He was pronounced dead just after 8 a.m.

Brown cooperated with police and will not face any charges.
