BROOKSVILLE — One person was killed and two others seriously injured when their pickup truck overturned and crashed into trees on Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place at 10 p.m. along County Road 476 near Daly Road.

Lucinda Rene Sims, 46, of Floral City, was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 west on CR-476 with two passengers inside, according to the Highway Patrol. They were about eight miles northeast of Brooksville when the crash took place.

For unknown reasons, troopers said Sims lost control of the pick-up. It drove onto the south shoulder, then Sims over-corrected and the truck started spinning and overturning before it ended up striking several trees.

The driver, Sims, and passenger Ivary Stokes Jr., 63, of Brooksville, were both thrown from the truck during the crash and suffered serious injuries, according to the Highway Patrol. The other passenger, a 43-year-old Brooksville woman whose named was not released, suffered fatal injuries and died at the crash scene.

None of the three occupants were wearing their seatbelts, the Highway Patrol said. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The two injured occupants were taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point for medical treatment.

Charges may be pending in this case.
