An Indiana man died Sunday after the car he was driving was involved in a three-car crash on Ulmerton Road, just west of Roosevelt Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to troopers, David Eugene Massaro, 60, of Carmel, Indiana, was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra west on Ulmerton Road around 4 p.m. Sunday. With him in the car was 56-year-old Teresa Lynn Hartman, also of Carmel.
As Massaro approached the intersection of Ulmerton and 34th Street N, troopers said, he turned left into the path of a 2008 Honda Civic being driven by 29-year-old Marvin Centeno-Martinez, of Ocala. Troopers said the front of the Civic hit the Nissan on the left side, sending it spinning through the intersection where it struck a 2017 Honda Accord waiting to make a left turn from eastbound Ulmerton Road onto 34th Street.
Massaro died at the scene. Hartman was transported to Bayfront Hospital with serious injuries. Centeno-Martinez and his passenger, 19-year-old Janelice Santiago, of Ocala, were taken to Largo Medical Center for minor injuries. The driver of the Accord, 24-year-old Clearwater resident Jamie Guzman, and her passenger, 22-year-old Sheila Duran, of Addison, N.Y., were not injured, troopers said.
According to the Highway Patrol, everyone was wearing a seatbelt at the times of the crash and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Charges have not been filed.
