NEW PORT RICHEY — A few hours before he was lying on his back in the woods, shirtless with a dog’s jaws clamped around his arm, Kevin Wilson climbed into a second-story window and tried to kidnap a 6-month-old baby girl, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilson, 24, of New Port Richey, was arrested Monday and faces charges of child neglect, interference of custody and violation of a pre-trial release for disobeying a no-contact order.

According to deputies, Wilson climbed into the second-story bedroom window of a Castine Street home around 8:45 a.m. The child’s mother let him in, but soon told him he had to leave. She had an order of protection against him from a July domestic battery incident.

Wilson said he would take the girl and he did.

The mother called for her uncle who was in a bedroom across the hall. Wilson took off with the girl down a set of stairs as her mother tried to grab his shirt and stop him. Her uncle grabbed a gun and followed outside.

The girl’s mother pleaded with Wilson to let her daughter go.

“You’ll never see her again,” Wilson said, clutching the child closer to him, squeezing so hard it seemed like he was choking her, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The uncle pointed the gun at Wilson and told him to let her go, that he was hurting her.

Eventually, Wilson let go. He jumped in a car and left the area. The girl’s mother and her uncle retreated to the house and called for help.

Hours later, the Sheriff’s Office said, aviation and K9 units were able to track Wilson. He crashed his car and fled into the woods behind a McDonald’s at Ridge Road and Moon Lake Road, causing several area schools to go into lockdown as deputies searched for him.

Body cam footage shows deputies finding a shirtless Wilson running through the woods, ignoring shouts to stop before K9 Titan tackles him into some trees.

“Good boy Titan. Good boy,” the deputy is heard saying. “You hold him. You hold that bad man.”

Wilson was arrested just after 2 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office. According to Pasco County jail records, Wilson has been arrested more than a dozen times as an adult on charges including battery, robbery, theft and possession of cocaine, marijuana and heroin.
