Pinellas authorities plan to step up DUI enforcement for holiday weekend

CLEARWATER — Police will be beefing up traffic enforcement this weekend because of the holiday.

Clearwater police officers will be fanned out across the city for a DUI detail in an effort to keep roadways safe this St. Patrick's Day, spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.

Other local agencies, including the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, also plan to have checkpoints this weekend. The Sheriff's Office will have a checkpoint set up Friday night and early Saturday at 29582 U.S. 19 N in Clearwater, officials said.
