A body was found in a Winn Dixie retention pond on Sunday afternoon.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said that at about 3:48 p.m., deputies were called to the Winn Dixie at 8740 Park Blvd. in Seminole.

Deputies discovered a body lying face-down in the sawgrass lining the pond.

Due to being exposed to the outside elements, it is unknown how long the body had been there.

The sheriff's office said it "appears to be an adult male, but identification is unknown at this time."

The body will be transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for a determination of the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
