DOVER — A 29-year-old cyclist was killed Tuesday night after colliding with a vehicle and being thrown from his bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Jessy James Smith of Plant City died in the 8:45 p.m. crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, east of Sydney Dover Road, according to an FHP report.

Smith was riding north across MLK Boulevard from the grass shoulder on the south side when he was struck by a westbound Jeep driven by Belisario Marales-Agueda, 26, of Dover, troopers said.

Smith failed to yield to the right of way while crossing the road, according to a crash report.

The front of the Jeep hit him and his bicycle and threw him onto the vehicle before he hit the ground.

He died at the scene.
