ST. PETERSBURG -- A St. Petersburg woman faces her fourth DUI charge after police say she crashed while fleeing a traffic stop Sunday night, leaving a female passenger with life-threatening injuries.
According to police, officers attempted to conduct an "investigative stop" on Michelle Gibson, 47, who was driving a Mercedes SUV, near 9th Avenue S and 18th Street around 10:30 p.m.
Gibson, who had a suspended license, sped away, police say. She drove a few blocks near Langdon Avenue S and Jordan Park Street S and crashed into a parked unoccupied car and flipped, ejecting her passenger, 32-year-old Tezra Alston.
Alston has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Both Gibson and Alston were transported to a local hospital. Gibson was cleared then arrested and faces charges of DUI with serious injuries, driving on a suspended license and fleeing and evading.
Gibson has three previous DUI arrests, jail records show.
The SUV was registered to Alston, whose license was revoked at the time of the crash, police say.
