ST. PETERSBURG — A 22-year-old motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision with another vehicle threw him from the bike Saturday, St. Petersburg police reported.
Zachary Buehler, 22, was driving a red 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle east on 54th Avenue North at about 7:30 Saturday night when a white 2003 Nissan Altima driving west on the same street crossed into his path, officers reported. Buehler was thrown from the bike and later transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
The driver of the Nissan, 59-year-old John Thomas Pearce, checked for traffic before he turned left toward a driveway on 54th Avenue North, police reported, but he did not see Buehler approaching.
A helmet was found at the scene, police said, but it was still unclear early Sunday morning whether Buehler was wearing it at the time of the crash.
