CLEARWATER — Police are still searching for the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run pedestrian crash that left one woman injured.

Tammie Whiting, 53, was hit by a car about 6:15 p.m. Thursday as she crossed the street at Myrtle Avenue and Turner Street. She was using a crosswalk.

According to Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw, the vehicle ran a red light and hit Whiting. The driver did not stop.

As of Friday evening, police hadn't identified a suspect.

She was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Police say the vehicle may be a silver four-door sedan similar to a Ford Taurus.

Her daughter, Quantel Whiting, said in a statement Tammie Whiting is a mother of four and grandmother of six.

"She is someone's mother, someone's grandmother, someone's aunt," Quantel said. "She doesn't deserve what happened to her. Please come forward. Please turn yourself in."
