Police: Winter Haven woman made bomb threat to halt boyfriend's urine test

A Lake Wales woman called in a bomb threat Tuesday to keep her boyfriend from submitting a urine sample at a probation office in Winter Haven, police said.

Deniz Martinez, 31, called 911 about 2:40 p.m. and said a man outside the probation office was going to "blow the building up," according to Winter Have police.

Investigators determined the cellphone number belonged to Martinez, who drove 38-year-old boyfriend Jason Drake to the office, at 1289 First St. S, that morning for a scheduled urinalysis test. Officials said Drake, of Lake Wales, wasn't able to provide the urine sample and was required to stay until he submitted a sufficient sample.

Officers said they tracked down Martinez and she acknowledged making the call.

Martinez faces a charge of making a false report about a bomb. Drake was arrested, accused of a probation violation.

The investigation into Drake's role in the bomb threat is ongoing and possible charges could be filed in the future, Winter Haven police said.
