Riverview woman, 59, killed in St. Petersburg car crash Thursday

ST. PETERSBURG —- A Riverview woman was killed Thursday after the car she was in flipped into a drainage ditch following a crash, police said.

Cynthia Cavanaugh, 59, was with her husband, Joseph Cavanaugh, 44, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Maxima along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street around 5:30 p.m.

Turning onto 110th Avenue N, Joseph Cavanaugh drove in front of an Infiniti G 35 driven by Melissa Malone, 31, and the two cars collided, police said. The Nissan careened into a drainage ditch, flipped over and became partially submerged.

Neither driver was impaired, police said. Cynthia Cavanaugh died in the crash and her husband and Malone were transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The crash is still under investigation.
