TAMPA — Deputies released the name of a man being sought in connection with a Sunday night shooting that left his neighbor dead at an apartment complex.

Kendrick James, 31, got into an altercation with the neighbor at about 6:30 p.m. at the complex at 13712 19th St. N, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

At some point during the altercation, deputies say the neighbor was fatally shot. No other details about how the shooting took place were released.

The wounded man was taken by a private vehicle to AdventHealth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Sheriff's Office has not released the man's name and likely won't because of the agency's interpretation of a constitutional amendment called Marsy's Law that went into effect in January.

Deputies are now searching for James and a burgundy 2015 Nissan Altima that may also be connected to the incident The Altima's tag is JJQ-K38. Anyone who sees James should immediately call 911.
