ST. PETERSBURG — St. Petersburg police were responding to a report of a possible sinkhole Friday afternoon at the intersection of 34th Street and 38th Avenue S.
The initial report came from a woman who felt something unusual affect her car and pulled over to call police, police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez said.
Between the time officers arrived on scene around 2 p.m. and just before 3:30, the sinkhole had reportedly grown to be six feet wide and eight feet deep.
Southbound traffic was being diverted to 37th Street S.
