TAMPA — A 27-year-old Tampa man died from injuries he received when he slammed into a concrete barrier after passing another vehicle on the Veteran's Expressway late Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Jorge Soto Triana was killed in the 9:40 p.m. crash near the Waters Avenue exit.

The crash occurred as Triana was driving a 2006 Toyota north in the center lane. He had just passed a vehicle when he abruptly steered into the inside lane to avoid striking another vehicle, the Highway Patrol said.

Triana overcorrected, crossed the highway and hit the driver's side of a 2014 Audi driven by Amanda Rogers, 32, of Tampa, the Highway Patrol said. Rogers was not injured.

Triana's car bounced back and hit the concrete barrier wall in the center median, the Highway Patrol said.

Triana later died of his injuries at a hospital.
