TAMPA — A 49-year-old man was killed Thursday night after his motorized wheelchair was struck by a car while he was crossing N Dale Mabry Highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. Troopers say Edwin DeLeon, 49, was headed west across N Dale Mabry Highway near W Hamilton Avenue, just south of the crosswalk.

Then he entered the path of a southbound 2002 Nissan Sentra driven by Galo Gregoria Tutiven, 42, of Tampa.

DeLeon was taken to AdventHealth Carrollwood, where he died from his injuries, troopers said.

Tutiven and a passenger were not injured.

Neither alcohol nor speeding were factors in the crash, troopers said. No charges are pending in this case, according to the Highway Patrol.
