TAMPA — The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver a car who turned in front of a motorcycle on Dale Mabry Highway on Sunday, causing a crash that killed the motorcyclist and injured his passenger.

Michael S. Tapp, 49, of Tampa was riding north on a 2016 Harley Davidson about 8:40 p.m. when a small, light-colored sedan heading south turned onto his path at the intersection of Idlewild Avenue, troopers said. To avoid a collision, Tapp braked hard and lost control of the motorcycle. The Harley overturned and Tapp and his passenger, 46-year-old Kymberle A. Meade of Tampa, were thrown from it.

Tapp and Meade were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Tapp was pronounced dead there and Meade was being treated for critical injuries.

The driver of the car did not stop and was last seen heading east on Idlewild. Troopers earlier believed that a pickup truck rather than a car caused the crash. The Highway Patrol asked anyone with information to call (813) 558-1800 or dial *347 .
