ST. PETERSBURG — A woman died Friday after she was struck by a car while trying to cross the street, police said.
Ada Morphis, 51, of St. Petersburg was attempting to cross about 11:15 p.m. in the crosswalk at 38th Avenue North and 34th Street when she stepped into the path of a westbound 2006 Nissan, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
The driver of the Nissan, Meho Alisphic, tried to avoid striking the woman but didn't have time, police said. Alisphic had a green signal at the time, police said. Alisphic stayed at the scene after the crash.
Morphis was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and pronounced dead.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been filed as of Sunday morning, police said, but that could change.
This story was updated Sunday to include the identity of the victim.
