RUSKIN — A woman was killed early Sunday after she walked into traffic on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was standing near two vehicles that were parked on the outside shoulder of the highway, near the College Avenue exit in Ruskin, at about 4:50 a.m.
For unknown reasons, troopers said, the woman walked across the southbound lanes and into the path of a 2004 Hummer H2, driven by 49-year-old Maria Beatrice Pillion of Parrish.
The Hummer struck the woman, troopers said. She was pronounced dead at the crash scene. Pillion suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
The crash remained under investigation.
