Baseball star Derek Jeter listed his 22,000-square foot estate on the housing market Tuesday, raising questions about the future housing for the home’s resident, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
The asking price is $29 million, which is one of the highest in Tampa Bay history, according Bob Glaser, CEO of Smith & Associates Real Estate, the firm handling the listing.
Brady and his family have been renting the mansion. He has not moved out, but the two sports superstars “negotiated favorable terms for both of them so that the Jeters could market and list the property,” said Sarah Lesch, a spokeswoman for Smith & Associates.
In a statement, Jeter said: “Davis Islands provided a quiet, safe, and friendly lifestyle that we will always cherish.” He and his family have moved to Miami, where he is part owner and CEO of the Marlins.
According to the description of the home in Tuesday’s news release, inside the home’s gates are limestone steps that lead to the entrance and its 24-foot-high foyer with floor-to-ceiling windows. Materials of the interior include “hand-polished Venetian plaster,” marble mosaic tiles and tailored silk drapes. It has seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and eight half-baths, as well as a clubroom with a full-service bar, billiards and game table with a glass corner wall overlooking the water.
There’s also a wine cellar, movie theater, gym, in-law suite, au-pair wing with its own living area and kitchen, and outdoor kitchen, air-conditioned six-car garage, scullery and a full-home generator. Outside, it has 9,000 square feet of outdoor covered porches and balconies, a dock with two boat lifts, a heated spa and an 80-foot saltwater lap pool.
The custom-designed home was completed in 2012 and is the largest residence in South Tampa with 345 feet of open bay, the release said.
“This is the most impressive home to ever hit the market in the Tampa Bay area,” said listing agent Stephen Gay. “It is the perfect fit for the luxury-minded buyer who wants the utmost in quality and impeccable attention to detail in conjunction with the security and privacy that this 1.25-acre walled estate provides.”
