On Dec. 4, Limona Village Chapel in Brandon celebrates 100 years.

The church, which opened at the Limona School in 1916 and moved to its current location in 1921, will host anniversary services at 10 a.m. followed, by a luncheon. At the event, members will open a time capsule. They will reminiscence with former members and leaders, look at old photos and catch up on conversation.

For Merit and Joanne O'Neal, the church's longest attending members, the occasion evokes memories dating back to 1953.

"We've always felt at home here," said Joanne O'Neal, 83. "We raised our children here. I was the church secretary for 20 years. We could never see ourselves anywhere else."

Limona, which serves about 240 members, offers small groups, bible studies, children's church and outreach programs. The church strives not only to provide a place for prayer and worship, but to remain active in the community. It operates a children's center, which offers VPK and religious study. Members also participate in Meals on Wheels and Family Promise.

As part of the United Methodist General Conference, Limona's history includes multiple pastors with unique visions. Ricc Conner currently acts as senior pastor. He accepted an appointment at the church a little more than a year ago.

"I think it is exciting to be a part of a church celebrating 100 years because it is living proof of the numerous lives that have been transformed," Conner said. "The church is experiencing growth and that would not be possible if it were not for those who faithfully went before us."

Going forward, Conner envisions many more years of transforming lives.

"Limona is a great church that is rediscovering how to love its neighbors," he said. "For us it is all about loving God, loving people, growing in our faith and doing something about it."

The church is located at 408 Limona Road. For more information, visit limonavillage chapel.com.
