Woman critically injured after car hits mausoleum at St. Pete cemetery

The driver was cited for careless driving after hitting a mausoleum.

A 63-year-old St. Petersburg woman was critically injured after the vehicle she was riding in crashed into a mausoleum Sunday afternoon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sandra Lynn Smith, 59, of St. Petersburg, was driving north through a grass lot of Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 5750 49th St. N in St. Petersburg about 4:40 p.m. when her 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass crashed into a mausoleum.

Smith’s passenger, Betty Strickland, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with critical injuries.

According to a news release, Smith, who was cited for careless driving, was uninjured. Three crypt plates were damaged.
