ST. PETERSBURG — City officials announced Monday that curbside recycling pickup will be suspended starting Tuesday for an indefinite amount of time.

The suspension is because of an electrical issue with machinery at the processing facility. The city specifically wrote on its website that “the suspension of service is unrelated to COVID-19.”

It’s unclear how long pickup will be suspended, though city officials called it a “short term issue." If it resumes soon, said Neighborhood Affairs Administrator Rob Gerdes, “we do not anticipate needing to issue any refunds.”

The city’s website said residents can still drop off recyclables at city brush sites and other drop-off sites across the city. Those looking to drop off recycling can visit stpete.org/brushsites for locations and more information.
