Police identify pedestrian hit by Jeep after tripping onto road

Police have identified the pedestrian hit by a Jeep Monday afternoon after he tripped on a curb.

Jerry Wayne VanDyke, 72, died at the hospital Monday night, according to St. Petersburg police.

The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. on 34th Street N, though police did not release a more specific location.

Police said VanDyke was struck by a Jeep driven by Danelle Monique Mullis, 40. Police said Mullis hit her brakes and tried to avoid hitting VanDyke, but the right front corner of the Jeep struck him.

VanDyke was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died that night.
