ST. PETERSBURG — Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Friday after he allegedly shot his 9-year-old nephew in the arm with a stolen gun, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Police said that Treyvon Maynor fled the Red Roof Inn off 49th Street North around 1:45 p.m. after the shooting. He discarded the firearm while he ran, but was identified by witnesses and arrested by police shortly after the shooting. The firearm was later located by K-9 deputies.
The nephew, who was not named by police, was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries, police say.
Maynor was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, grand theft of a firearm and for violation of probation, police said in a release.
