One dead, one seriously injured in crash on 66th Street N in St. Pete

Police said a silver Lexus sedan is the only vehicle involved. The driver of the Lexus is dead and a passenger has life-threatening injuries.

A 58-year-old woman was killed and another woman was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday morning on 66th Street N in St. Petersburg, police report.

Police said Claudette Powell was driving a silver Lexus north on Pasadena Avenue and tried to merge onto northbound 66th Street just before 11 a.m. She lost control, hit a guardrail, crossed a median and hit a tree. The car flipped near 5th Avenue N.

Powell was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Her passenger, an 85-year-old woman, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
