ST. PETERSBURG — An argument led to a deadly shooting early Saturday, police said.

John Grant, 24, was arrested Saturday after St. Petersburg police say he fatally shot 26-year-old Deauntazies Ramsey in the parking lot of a grocery store.

The shooting took place about 3:15 a.m. outside the Food Max grocery store at 1400 18th Ave. S. Police did not say what led to the argument. However, the two men knew each other.

Ramsey was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said. No other details about the incident were released.

Grant faces a charge of second-degree murder. He was booked into the Pinellas County jail, where he was being held Saturday without bail.

The grocery store was the scene of another shooting in September that left one man dead and another injured.

A crowd had gathered there early on Sept. 19 — a Saturday morning — when an argument broke out. A 49-year-old man is accused of pulling out a weapon and firing multiple gunshots at two men, killing one and wounding another.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893.7780, or they can anonymously send tips by texting the letters SPPD and the information to TIP-411.
