St. Petersburg pedestrian struck, killed on 54th Avenue N

ST. PETERSBURG — A 58-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV on Tuesday night while walking across 54th Avenue N, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash took place just before 9 p.m. on 54th Avenue N near 26th Street N.

The SUV, driven by a 57-year-old Lakewood Ranch man, was headed east in the center lane of 54th Avenue. Then a pedestrian walking south across 54th Avenue N entered his path as he drove toward 26th Street N, according to the Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was struck and suffered fatal injuries. The man, a St. Petersburg resident, died at the scene of the crash. Troopers did not say if the pedestrian was using a crosswalk.

The names of the pedestrian and driver were not released. No other details about the crash were provided by the Highway Patrol.
