ST. PETERSBURG — A 66-year-old woman was killed Sunday when her sport-utility vehicle veered off the road and crashed into an apartment building, police said.

Cynthia Rae Lauber of St. Petersburg was heading north near the 8400 block of N Dr. Martin Luther King Street about 3:40 p.m. when she lost control of a Toyota SUV, struck a water main and crashed into the wall of Jamestown Apartments, according to St. Petersburg police.

Lauber, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene of the crash, police said.

The investigation continued Monday.
