ARTpool Gallery & Vintage Boutique has been a beloved member of the downtown St. Petersburg community for over a decade. The shop at 2030 Central Ave. is filled with funky jewelry, records and vintage clothing, with social media accounts that frequently star shop pet Franklin the schnauzer modeling quirky outfits and accessories. The front window displays are always eye-catching, featuring mannequins draped in colorful costumes, flowing wigs and feather boas.

According to social media posts, store owners Marina and Evan Williams were devastated when one of those display windows was vandalized over the holiday weekend.

Around 1 a.m. Monday, security footage captured a person skateboarding in front of the shop. The individual then used his skateboard to smash open the window and destroy the display inside.

“We are really stressed with the cost to cover this unnecessary repair and are just beside ourselves with sadness,” reads a post on the shop’s Instagram account. ARTpool Gallery did not respond to requests for comment before publication.

The incident comes at an especially inopportune time, the post explains. ARTpool Gallery was closed for a long period during the pandemic and recently reopened. The Williams are also new parents.

“I am struggling to wrap my head around all of this and appreciate everyone’s help bringing this person to justice,” the caption continues.

The shop is asking anyone with information about the person in the footage to email artpoolgallery@gmail.com. ARTpool Gallery is also selling Magical Mystery Jewelry Boxes starting at $20 and gift certificates starting at $10 to raise money for a new storefront window.

“We can’t thank you enough for cheering us on through thick and thin, friends,” they posted.
