A 66-year-old bicyclist who was seriously injured after he was hit by a car in St. Petersburg late last month has died, police announced Monday.
Rainner Brown, of St. Petersburg, was crossing 18th Avenue S near 19th Street S when he was struck by the driver of a Mazda 6 sedan a little before midnight on Feb. 28. According to a news release from the St. Petersburg Police Department, Brown “was not in a crosswalk and had not activated the pedestrian crossing light prior to entering the street.”
Officers said the driver did not see Brown, and they stayed on the scene and cooperated with investigators after hitting him.
According to the release, Brown was not wearing a helmet when he was struck.
He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died on Saturday, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, the release said.
