Sub school starts for women
The first four of the female enlisted sailors selected for the Navy's "silent service" began training this week at submarine school in Groton, Conn., the latest milestone in eliminating one of the military's few remaining gender barriers. The barracks at the Navy base have been reconfigured for privacy, but officials say the first coed class of enlisted recruits is not being received differently from any others. The Navy ended a ban on women serving aboard submarines in 2010. It began integrating crews by introducing female officers, who already have been assigned to ballistic-missile and fast-attack submarines.
Recall: Cascadian Farm beans
General Mills is recalling some 60,000 packages of its Cascadian Farm frozen green beans after one package tested positive for listeria. The Minneapolis food company said Wednesday no illnesses have been reported. Listeria can cause fever, muscle aches, gastrointestinal symptoms and even death. The recall is for 10-ounce bags of the green beans with "Better If Used By" dates of 10APR2016 and 11APR2016. The company says the recalled product was produced in March 2014. General Mills says customers should throw out the recalled product and contact the company for a replacement.
