A man was knocked out in Ybor City. Now it’s a murder investigation, Tampa police say.

The Sept. 26 punch caused the man to hit his head on the ground. He died in the hospital.

TAMPA ― What started as a knock-out punch in Ybor City has turned into a homicide investigation, police said.

The incident took place at about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 26. A man in his 20s was standing on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of E Seventh Avenue when he got into an argument with another man.

Then a third man exited a nearby vehicle and punched the man on the sidewalk, according to Tampa police.

The man fell to the ground, struck his head on the ground and lost consciousness. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The injured man was pronounced dead on Tuesday. Police said the assault has turned into a homicide investigation.

Police did not release the name of the man who died, or say if they have identified the other two men involved in the incident.
