Jane Castor, Rick Kriseman clap back at Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner

The mayors traded friendly, multi-platform jabs as their baseball teams prepare to do battle in the American League Division Series.

Sylvester Turner started the smack talk.

The Houston mayor had this to say about the Astros’ playoff foe, the Tampa Bay Rays, to KRIV-TV at a City Hall rally Thursday.

The first to fire back on behalf of the Tampa Bay region was Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. Her response came the old-fashioned way, via text:

“I have heard the saying that everything is bigger in Texas — clearly that applies to their ‘delusional thoughts.' The Tampa Bay Rays will knock it out of the park. Once the Astros tangle with the Rays the only phrase Mayor Turner will be able to utter will be 'Houston, we have a problem!”

So what about the other city in the ALDS. You know, the one the Rays actually play in?

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman was in Michigan for a U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting. He sent out this tweet at 10:34 p.m.:

The Rays and Astros start the five-game series at 2 p.m. Friday at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.
