A woman hit by DaBaby at a Tampa nightclub said the rapper struck her mistakenly after another person nearby touched his face, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to Whiskey North, 11921 N Dale Mabry Hwy, where the rapper performed Saturday night, at about 3 a.m. and spoke with the woman. She said she the rapper, who is named Jonathan Kirk, was being walked through the crowd when a woman standing next to her touched his face.

DaBaby then turned and hit the woman on the right cheek with an open hand, deputies said. Authorities have not released the name of the woman, citing Marsy’s Law.

Video of the incident circulated online, appearing to show a woman shining a phone flashlight close to the rapper’s face. On Instagram, DaBaby apologized but said with the light he couldn’t see anything.

He began his apology by turning on his phone flashlight and shining it into the camera, then smacking the phone against the camera. He said he felt he wasn’t treated with respect.

“I do sincerely apologize. I do, I’m very sorry that there was a female on the other end of that flashlight on that phone,” he said.

He then said he would fly the woman out so they can have a mature conversation and he can apologize in person.

Sheriff’s deputies said the woman didn’t have any visible wounds and refused medical treatment. She was given a form that gives her the choice to file charges with the State Attorney’s Office.
