TAMPA — A woman who lost custody of a child has gone missing two days after giving birth to another child. Now deputes are looking for the mother and her newborn.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday asked for the public help in finding 20-year-old Kanasia Johnson and her newborn daughter, Brinae. The mother gave birth Thursday at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital.

Johnson’s parental rights over another child were terminated, deputies said, and she did not tell her case manager she was expecting.

Child protective investigators have not been able to find Johnson since she left the hospital with her child and believe the newborn could be in danger.

“We are very concerned for this infant, who is less than a week old, and our child protective investigators want to make contact with her mother as quickly as possible to ensure that this innocent child is safe,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a statement.

Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of the mother and child is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
