One wounded in Tampa shooting on Columbus Drive Bridge

TAMPA — A shooting on Tuesday left one man injured and closed the Columbus Drive Bridge, according to Tampa police.

The wounded man was taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries that were not considered life-threatening, said police spokeswoman Vanessa Nettingham. Tampa police did not release the name of the wounded man, but said they were in stable condition.

The incident took place about 1 p.m. The gunshot victim was leaving the Columbus Court Apartments at 2802 Statelite Court in an Infiniti. Then the sedan came under gunfire while it drive over the bridge, police said. The Infiniti then veered into oncoming traffic on W Columbus Drive and crashed into another vehicle.

The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured. The wounded man got out of the Infiniti and ran from the shooting scene, police said. Officials did not say how he got to the hospital.

The bridge was briefly closed Tuesday afternoon while police investigated the shooting. Police said they do not yet have a description of the suspects or any vehicles they may have been using. Officials did not say when the bridge was reopened.
