TAMPA — A man faces a manslaughter charge in connection with a deadly North Tampa shooting late Wednesday, records show.
Officers responded about 11:15 p.m. to a report of gunshots heard in the 900 block of E Annie Street. There, they found a man in his early 20s dead from at least one gunshot wound, according to Tampa police. Officers then detained a suspect in the shooting, police said, and detectives worked to determine what happened.
Then early Thursday, 25-year-old Juan Antonio Colon Lugo of Tampa was arrested on a charge of manslaughter with a weapon, according to an arrest report and county jail records.
A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office records custodian, citing an active investigation, released a heavily redacted version of the arrest report requested by the Tampa Bay Times.
The arrest report says the responding officers found a gunshot victim lying in the road in front of a home at 912 E Annie St.
Tampa police did not release the name of the man who was shot. The department no longer provides the names of victims due to its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved amendment to the state Constitution that was meant to protect crime victims but that deprives the public of information long available under Florida’s public records law.
Lugo was being held in the Hillsborough County jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Jail records show he lists a home address on the 10100 block of N Lantana Avenue in Tampa and is a self-employed mechanic.
The Tampa Police Department asks anyone with information about this case to call 813-231-6130.
